Welcome to the Diversity Initiative's Update – a periodic report for members and other key stakeholders on activities of the Initiative, its networks and upcoming events and dates. We hope this update will provide valuable information to you and your leadership teams for continued support of and engagement in shared goals of creating inclusive business opportunity in the St. Louis region.
What’s been happening
More than 500 participants have benefited from Diversity Initiatives events and programs
Sponsored 6 events and programs attended by more than 120 human resources professionals
Worked with selected senior Human Resources professionals on development and implementation of an actionable plan
Launched Gateway Connections...a welcoming orientation to the St. Louis region for people of color. This is a one-day session designed to give participants an opportunity to meet key business and community leaders and to receive an extensive overview of the area's history, economics, structures, cultural affairs and leisure amenities. There have been four sessions with 70 participants.
Launched Professional Development Speakers Series for professionals of color. First panel featured Michael (Mike) Jones of the County Executive's Office, Martha (Bunny) Mitchell of Fleishmann Hilliard and Steven Cousins of Armstrong Teasdale. There were over 70 attendees.
Working with selected minority professional organizations in support of their programs and initiaties and serving as a resource to the business community.
Diversity Officers’ Network – member organizations’ human resources professionals
Three panel discussions on how St. Louis can attract & maintain a diverse workforce attracted
Purchasing Officers’ Network – member organizations’ purchasing professionals
Exceeded $10 million goal for new contracts with minority companies
MasterCard featured at best practices program … with other strategies & success stories outlined at other monthly meetings
Minority Corporate Network – networking for members’ minority employees
What’s coming up
Professional Development Speakers Series - Hosted by St. Louis Business Diversity Initiative - Work Life Balance....Mind, Body and Spirit Thursday, June 8, 2006. You will have the opportunity to hear from Rebeccah Bennett of Vector Communication and Charley K. Johnson of Charley's Body Shoppe, two of St. Louis' leaders in the area of health, spirituality and fitness. The session will be from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm at the Regional Collaboration Center of the RCGA on the 12th floor of the One Metropolitan Square building. Lunch will be provided for a nominal fee. Diversity Officer's Network Meeting - Hosted by The St. Louis Business Diversity Initiative, Thursday, June 22, 2006 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the RCGA Regional Collaboration Center - One Metropolitan Square Building. Topic: Gateway Connections and other orientation programs. The outcomes of the session is to provide an overview to the human resources and diversity officers in the region of the programs and to have these professionals to provide this unique opportunity to their professionals of color who have relocated to the region.
